The Knight-Hennessy Scholars program seeks to identify up to 110 high-achieving students from around the world with demonstrated leadership and civic commitment to receive full funding to pursue graduate education at Stanford University, with the goal of developing a new generation of global leaders.  The Knight-Hennessy is the largest fully endowed scholars program in the world.

As a Knight-Hennessy Scholar you will develop both the depth and range of subject expertise to confront the numerous grand challenges and opportunities of the future. You will be part of a unique community of change agents from a diverse range of backgrounds. This is a community that will support you, motivate you, and hold you accountable for achieving your goals even when the odds of success seem likely against you.

Eligibility

Applications to the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program are accepted from citizens of all countries.  It expects that over time about one third of Scholars will be from the United States, and about two thirds will be from countries outside the United States.

Candidates are eligible to apply to the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program if they apply during their final year of study for their first/bachelor's degree or within four years of earning their first/bachelor’s degree. For class that applies in 2018, that means they must or will have have graduated between January 2014 through September 2019 to enroll at Stanford in September 2019.

Award

The award covers the full cost of up to three years of graduate program.  Additionally, it includes:

  • a fellowship applied directly to cover your tuition and associated fees; health insurance and associated fees; and
  • a generous stipend covering on-campus room and board; books, supplies, and instructional materials; travel to and from Stanford; local transportation; and reasonable personal expenses.
Application

Two essays required by the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program, including:

  • Connecting the Dots;
  • Describe your life's calling and how a Stanford education will prepare you to undertake it.

Short answer responses and a video are also required by the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program application.
