Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship

The Barry M. Goldwater Undergraduate Scholarship recognizes sophomores or juniors who have outstanding potential and intend to pursue research careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering. Key factors in award decisions include the candidate's career objectives and the extent to which that individual has the commitment and potential to make a significant contribution to his or her field. It is expected that students selected as scholars will pursue advanced degrees (i.e. Ph.D). Students who plan to study medicine are eligible for a Goldwater Scholarship ONLY if they plan a research career rather than a career as a medical doctor in private practice.

Eligibility

Sophomores and Juniors majoring in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering: a GPA of at least 3.8 is highly recommended.  Undergraduate research experience is also highly recommended.

Award

Each scholarship covers eligible expenses for tuition, fees, books, and room and board, up to a maximum of $7,500 annually.
