Data Privacy Notice

Academic Commons adheres to the GW Personal Information and Privacy Policy as well as the Statement of Privacy Practices with regards to data collected through all programs. Personal information, including name, email address, course enrollment, and the details of use (for example, tutoring session attendance), is collected when members of the GW community utilize Academic Commons programs. 

In certain situations, we may share Academic Commons usage details with other campus partners. Specific situations include:

Potential Academic Integrity Violations

Program(s): All Academic Commons Programs

In the suspicion of a GW Code of Academic Integrity violation, Academic Commons professional staff will collect individual accounts from both the witness of the potential violation and the student suspected of the code violation. This information will be shared with the appropriate faculty member who will determine the course of action.

Data Sharing with University Partners

Programs: Peer Tutoring, Data Consulting

Academic Commons may share peer tutoring attendance records with university partners, including (but not limited to) the Enrollment and Student Success division and the Office of Institutional Research. Analysis of this data provides valuable findings about student success trends which are used to improve the student experience at GW and the peer tutoring program. Peer tutoring records are not shared with individual faculty members without student consent, except in the cases of suspected academic integrity violations (see above). 

Program: Learning Assistants

Academic Commons shares attendance records with faculty in supported classes to help the faculty member understand engagement with the resource and, when applicable, award extra credit. Additionally, Academic Commons may share attendance records with university partners, including (but not limited to) the Enrollment and Student Success division and the Office of Institutional Research. Analysis of this data provides valuable findings about student success trends which are used to improve the student experience at GW and the learning assistant program. Finally, Academic Commons shares attendance records with individual faculty members in cases of suspected academic integrity violations (see above).
